Overview

At ST Engineering iDirect, the Global Technical Publications (TechPubs) Team is dedicated to producing top-tier documentation that empowers our customers to effectively utilize our products, platforms, and services. We are a global team of 7 professionals who collaborate closely with developers, product owners, and product managers in an Agile SAFe environment. Our mission is to make complex topics accessible and understandable.

 

As a Principal Technical Writer, you will play a crucial role in creating, publishing, and maintaining technical documentation for a diverse audience, including network operators, architects, integrators, developers, and technical assistance representatives. Your work will support both our team and other groups within the company by ensuring clear, precise, and user-friendly documentation.

Responsibilities

Research and Documentation: Independently gather information from Engineering, Architecture, Product Owners, and other sources to create and maintain customer-facing documents, including User Guides, Technical Reference Guides, Release Notes, Technical and Security Bulletins, and API Guides.
Training and Meetings: Participate in in-house product training and meetings to stay informed about company technologies, development and release processes, and organizational structures.
Project Management: Organize and complete writing assignments on time, adhering to TechPubs documentation standards.
Collaboration: Work with other writers and management to set and achieve departmental and company goals.
Editing and Review: Edit various content for grammatical accuracy and technical precision.
Mentorship: Provide mentoring and support to other team members, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment.

Qualifications

Industry Experience: 8+ years of experience in IT, networking, telecommunications, satellite communications, or a related field, with a proven track record of managing projects and developing customer-facing technical documentation.
Technical Skills: Proficient with Windows and Microsoft Office (Word, Visio, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with TechPubs authoring tools such as MadCap Flare, FrameMaker, Confluence, Adobe Acrobat; familiarity with screen-capturing tools like Snagit or Capture.
Specialized Knowledge: Experience in satellite and/or TCP communications is desirable; familiarity with Structured Writing or DITA is a plus.
Education: Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Technical Communications, English, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
